Do’s and Don’ts: Resolutions for Better Skin
Acne is an ongoing problem for many teens and adults. The good news is that there are things you can do that can help prevent breakout
Do’s
Wear sunscreen always – Sun exposure is the number one cause of wrinkles and sun damage. Although sun exposure is important for your daily vitamin D intake, you should still do so with sunblock. It is important to keep in mind that tanning not only damages skin and poses a health risk, but unprotected exposure to the sun may also aggravate acne.
Toss old makeup – Throw away old makeup that smells or that looks different from when you first purchased it. Old makeup may irritate your skin and clog your pores.
Remove makeup – Remember to remove makeup before you go to bed. It can clog pores and lead to breakouts.
Moisturize – No matter what skin type you are, you should moisturize. Moisturizers seal in your skin’s moisture and prevent it from drying out and looking dull.
Use an acne treatment – There are so many prescription drugs and creams that you can buy online to treat acne. Consider taking Accutane, Differin, or Retin-A.
Don’ts
Don’t stress out – There is preliminary evidence that suggest that stress may exacerbate acne. This is due to altered hormonal levels and suppression of the immune system that is linked to stress.
Don’t pop pimples – Although it is tempting to pop pimples, avoid doing so. Popping pimples not only causes swelling, and redness, it can even lead to infection and scarring. It almost always can make the acne you have worse.
Don’t over wash or scrub – When washing your face, choose mild soaps and gently massage your face with circular motions. Washing your face more than twice a day and using harsh chemicals will not get rid of acne. On the contrary, scrubbing and over washing may cause your skin to become irritated.
