Drink Clean Water
There is so much concern of late about clean water and today, we have so many options to choose from in terms of which kind we drink. But most people are not totally clear on the differences between types of water and how they are cleaned or purified and what exactly we’re purifying from. There are 3 main approaches: reverse osmosis, distillation and filtration. Let’s start by talking about reverse osmosis. Most mineral constituents (salt, lead, manganese, iron, and calcium) of water are physically larger than water molecules so when you use reverse osmosis, they become trapped in the semi-permeable membrane and removed from drinking water along with some chemical components of drinking water, including fluoride. Also, since chloride is physically smaller in size than water is, the semi-permeable membrane cannot prohibit it from passing through with the water. Also since it removes alkaline mineral constituents of water, reverse osmosis produces acidic water which can be dangerous to the body and cause calcium and other essential minerals to be stripped from bones and teeth in order to neutralize its acidity. Trace elements which are supposed to be in the water are also removed and this makes the water tasteless and less healthy. Unlike reverse osmosis and distillation, water filters are not limited in the type or size of contaminants they can remove so they take care of far more contaminants than any other purification method and they can selectively retain healthy trace minerals in your water. Filtration removes chlorine and its byproducts from drinking water as well as chlorine-resistant protozoa giardia and cryptosporidium. Water filters, because they do not require the costly energy sources of reverse osmosis and distillation, provide a source of relatively inexpensive, purified water and they waste very little water, as compared to reverse osmosis and distillation systems. As for distillation, all of the minerals and pretty much everything is removed when using that method as well—which is not good at all for your health since minerals are stripped from your body when you drink it. More to come…
